Leila had difficulty walking to the bathroom that night, and she had even more difficulty sleeping. She lay awake for over an hour as she re-played the day’s events in her mind.

Carene kissing her. Not like a sister, not like a friend, but kissing her as if they would never see each other again. Carene’s hand on her bottom as if she were selecting a prize peach, fondling gently to test for the response.

“No story tonight!” Leila had grunted, shutting the door fast enough to avoid further eye contact.

What had happened? She had come to visit her best friend, and it had turned into something else without her noticing. Or had it? Why did Carene leave her to cry on the bed alone, sobbing and trying in vain to re-capture the electrifying waves that had begun cascading through her entire body? Leila ached, unable to quench the strange, unknown feelings washing over her. Carene had punished her. It hurt worse than anything she’d experienced before. So why did it feel good?
